MetroAir Logistics

April 1, 2022

Kansas City, Kansas — MetroAir Virtual Airlines announced plans for a new cargo division called MetroAir Logistics during a press conference at company headquarters on April 1st, 2022.

CEO William Hogarth explained the rationale: "We all saw what an important role cargo operations have played over the last 2 years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic." He noted that global supply chain disruptions prompted the airline to establish its own 24-hour cargo operation.

Operational Details

The new division will establish its base at Charlotte (KCLT), North Carolina in early April 2022. The fleet will consist of Boeing 747-8, 777-200F, and 737-800BCF freighter aircraft, initially serving routes within the USA and Caribbean regions.

Cargo Operations Director Jamie Milton stated the airline selected Charlotte for its "room, infrastructure and capabilities," despite considering other current hub locations.

Impact

The logistics division is expected to create over 500 jobs at Charlotte Airport plus additional positions across the network. Launch is anticipated for mid-to-late April 2022, initially operating 16 routes. Officials believe the division will boost company revenue and profitability following pandemic-related losses.
